Qatar’s Economy and Commerce Minister has identified $19.7 billion investment opportunities in the sport sector head of the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
Opportunities in the development of sports, event management and promotion, construction of facilities, goods and equipment, marketing, sports tourism and operations and maintenance of facilities will be available, said Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, Minister of Economy and Commerce, at the Sports Business Opportunities Forum on Sunday.
“Sport is part of the Qatar National Vision 2030,” said Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani. “The 2015 Handball World Cup was hosted here and around 30 major events are organised here on an annual basis.”
The 2022 FIFA World Cup will contribute to the economic development of Qatar by bringing investment opportunities, while also enhancing the country’s position as a sports hub and tourism destination, he said.
“Qatar will become a centre for exporting this expertise to the region and the world,” said Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy. “We are ready to support all the infrastructure developments which lead to 2022.”
“We are working to leave a lasting economic legacy by cooperation and partnership with the private sector.”
