$47 million arterial road to be built in Sharjah

New 42km route to be completed in second quarter of 2018

A new 42km arterial road costing $47 million (AED174 million) is to be built in Sharjah, it has been reported.

The road is to start from Al Badeea intersection on Emirates Road and end at the Shaikh Khalifa intersection.

The arterial route off Maleha Road is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2018, Khaleej Times reported.

It will add a third lane in both directions, said the Ministry of Infrastructure Development’s roads manager Ahmed Al Hammadi.

"The new road will also have head shoulders whereas the concrete barriers will be replaced with iron ones to prevent sand accumulation,” he said.

“We will be connecting two points which see busy traffic all the week long. Therefore, we had to adopt an innovative way to avoid traffic disruption during the two-year project."

The project will see 28 road diversions including six detours every 3km on both directions.
