Maquet targets ORs and ICUs

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Sunday, 01 April 2007
Al-Khatib: Regional office allows Maquet to serve customers better.

Maquet, a provider of products and services for operating rooms and intensive care units, has opened a regional sales office at Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park (DuBiotech). The office will cover the six GCC countries, as well as Egypt, Iran and Yemen.

"The launch of our regional sales office in DuBiotech emphasises Maquet's strong commitment to the Middle East region in general and the Gulf states in particular," said Thomas Schneider, director of international business, Maquet. "We firmly believe that proximity to our customers and business partners will enable us to better understand the needs of the local market."

Maquet, based in Rastatt, Germany, is a provider of medical systems focused on the operating room (OR) and intensive care unit (ICU). It employs 2800 people worldwide and posted a turnover of more than €550 million in 2005.

At the recent Arab Health exhibition, the company demonstrated its latest OR table and transportation system, Magnus, the Powerled surgical light and Modutec / Alphaport ceiling service units. The company also showed its critical care products, including a ventilator with neurally adjusted ventilatory assist technology, and a range of cardiopulmonary products for secure open-heart surgery.

"I believe that we have an opportunity to bring two of our greatest strengths to the region," said Belal Al-Khatib, managing director of Maquet Middle East. "First, of course, is to provide the highest possible quality of innovative medical devices, notably in the fields of surgery and intensive care.

"Secondly, and probably just as important, we have always anticipated the needs of our customers and maintained close relations with them through a personal approach. With our own office in Dubai, we can ensure this proximity, which I think is particularly significant for a large organisation like Maquet operating in the Middle East."
