Eight companies competed for the contract, including Samsung Engineering and Construction, Al Habtoor Engineering and Al Safar Group.
Al Habtoor and STFA are carrying out the piling work, with construction expected to begin this week.
"The project is due for completion by the end of 2009," said Ani Ray, regional director, TAV Gulf.
U-Bora Towers is a two-tower complex, which will span an area of 200,000m2 and will comprise a 57-storey office tower and a 16-storey residential tower, as well as 7,000m2 of retail space, a basement and a podium.
The master architect for the tower is Hong Kong's Aedas along with the UAE's Group Consult International. Whitby & Bird Engineers is the structural designer.
South Korea's Bando Engineering and Construction is the developer.
