Cavotec growth in airport supplier sector

Supplier success: Dubai based Cavotec is currently expanding.

Cavotec experienced record growth during 2006, with annual turnover reaching US$27 million, compared to $16.3 million during the previous year.

This growth will be sustained in the future, according to the Dubai-based supplier of airport equipment, which has targeted a further 20% growth in 2007.

"The aviation industry in the region is expanding at a great rate, with an increasing number of airports announcing development schemes," said Thomas Widegren, regional manager and executive chairman, Cavotec Middle East. "This presents tremendous business opportunities for Cavotec as we occupy a niche market supplying very specialised products."

Based in Jebel Ali Free Zone, Cavotec is currently quadrupling the size of its warehouses and offices in order to meet the demand. It has also doubled the size of its workforce in the past 18 months.

The company has recently won a series of contracts, including the installation of 120 units in the new Emirates engineering hangar at Dubai International Airport. It has also fitted similar equipment specifically for the A380 in concourse 1 and supplies the power and air supply equipment for 27 gates at concourse 2.

"We are planning to enhance our profile further by taking part in various aviation exhibitions in the United Arab Emirates," said Widegren. "Our participation in APEX (Aviation Procurement Expo) allowed us to have a formal exchange with Abu Dhabi aviation officials and promote our services. The emirate will be an important aviation hub of the future and we are keen to establish a presence there. The Airport Show in Dubai is also key to our continued growth as it attracts top level representatives of airports around the region."
