Cologne Bonn Airport in Germany experienced a record-breaking year in 2006, with increases in both passenger and cargo volumes.
The airport handled a total of 9.9 million passengers last year, which marks an increase of 5% compared to 2005. Cargo volumes also rose to 698,000 tonnes, an increase of 7% compared to the previous year.
This growth is expected to continue in 2007. The airport has set targets of 10.4 million passengers and 740,000 tonnes of freight by the end of this year.
"In the past years we have experienced an enormous boom in terms of above-average growth rates. With the higher performance of last year, together with the higher targets, we are aiming at this year, we are on the way to consolidating on-going, sustainable success", said Michael Garvens, CEO of Cologne Bonn Airport. "We have now firmly established ourselves among the top German airports."
