Samsung wins Palm bridge job

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Saturday, 14 April 2007

Samsung Corporation, the trading and construction arm of South Korea's largest industrial group, has won a US $350 million (AED1.2 billion) contract to build a bridge to Nakheel's Palm Jebel Ali.

The contract involves the construction of six marine bridges, totalling 4.17km in length, and two eight-lane marine bridges (1.2km and 1.45km) connecting the development to Dubai.

The project also consists of four bridges linking the inner island. It is scheduled for completion by November 2010.

The contract brings the total overseas orders secured by Samsung Corporation so far this year to $935 million.

The company is also working on Emaar's Burj Dubai in partnership with Besix and Arabtec.

The $900 million tower set a new record earlier this month for having more floors than any other building in the world.

The mainly-concrete structure has been designed as if it had several buildings stacked on top of each other, Emaar's assistant director of projects, Greg Sang, told a meeting organised by the British Business Group.
