Aldar adds to portfolio with AD island projects

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Saturday, 14 April 2007

Aldar Properties has teamed up with the National Corporation for Tourism and Hotels (NCTH) to develop a ‘gated' resort and residential development on two islands located off the west coast of Abu Dhabi.

The development will link the two islands to increase the waterfront and allow for the formation of a lagoon, which will form the central feature of the development.

The five-star resort will be made up of 128 rooms, two royal suites, 10 private villas and 20 club suites as well as a health club, spa and a private marina.

The residential element of the project will feature five-bedroom villas and five-storey apartment buildings.

"Our venture with The National Corporation for Tourism and Hotels demonstrates our commitment to the improvement of Abu Dhabi and is a clear application of our responsibility of contribution to the emirate," said Ahmed Al Sayegh, chairman, Aldar Properties.

The development is expected to open in 2009.

This is the third joint venture that Aldar Properties has entered into over recent months. The company tied up with contractor Laing O'Rourke last November to work together on projects in Abu Dhabi, and joined forces with Tabreed last month to build 25 district cooling plants in the emirate.

Ron Barrott, CEO, Aldar, said: "Both Aldar and the National Corporation for Tourism and Hotels bring a wealth of experience in both the hotel and tourism industries and have an excellent understanding of the Abu Dhabi market."
