Ras Al Khaimah logistics facilities open

No looking back for RAK.

RAK Global Logistics Park and Inland Container Depot have been officially opened by HH Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

Both facilities are a joint venture between RAK Ceramics PSC and Global Cargo System called RAK Global Logistics. The Logistics Park, located in RAK industrial zone, offers a warehousing capacity of 2500m2 and includes a 12 metre high warehouse that is capable of storing and distributing around 10,000m3 of cargo. The new Inland Container Depot (ICD) is spread over 20,000m2 and is equipped to handle 1500 TEU's.

"Logistics has become a critical element for economic success in the global village of today and we are happy that RAK is moving ahead with its plans to increase its port and airport infrastructure and logistics connectivity," said HH Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi.

"RAK today has a state-of-the-art Container Terminal and boasts the best bulk handling port in the region. We are also going ahead with the development of the RAK Port and the Al Jeer Port," he added.

Hoping to enhance the Emirate's logistics infrastructure, the park has been equipped with the latest WMS software and cargo can be tracked using RFID. The park also houses a Business Centre, which offers offices to investors, shipping lines and international freight forwarders to facilitate their operations. To support the ICD operation, a new company has been formed called RAK Global Transport LLC that has an existing fleet of 50 trailers and trucks, which is to be expanded to 200 units in the near future.

"This facility will provide an unparalleled infrastructure and flexibility to meet the growing demand of this blessed country and region. The RAK Logistics City will invite all the multinational logistics operators, co-packers, value adding organisations, distribution centres and international supply chain organisations to participate on a value for money infrastructure to turn this dream into a reality," said Ven Govinda, CEO, RAK Global Logistics.

RAK Global Logistics also revealed an interest in establishing a 1 million m2 logistics park near the Emirates Road with the patronage of the Government of Ras Al Khaimah.

Well done RAK Global Logistics that has come into the map of strategic planners. Competition in today's economy is far more dynamic. Logistics is a dynamic function and stimulates action learning. 
 
Companies can mitigate any input-cost disadvantages through global sourcing,rendering the old notion of comparative advantage less relevant. RAL GlobalLogistics should innovate and offer a differentiated product and services in UAE.  
 
Universities have a stake in the competitiveness of local businesses. By revealing the process by which wealth is actually created in an economy, clusters (like RAK Global Logistics Park) open new public-private avenues for constructive action. 
 
I wish Ven Govinda CEO of RAK Global Logistics and his team to be different from other logistics parks already in operation in UAE.
