DTK vows to strengthen business with CE drive

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Sunday, 01 April 2007
Samer Atassi says DTK is looking to strengthen its presence in the consumer electronics sector this year.

After registering an impressive 20% growth in shipments last year, hardware assembler DTK has revealed plans to gain a stronger foothold in the consumer electronics segment.

The manufacturer admits that its 2006 expansion was largely driven by its core PC business, but it is still eager to exploit the current trend for convergence products.

DTK is hoping that the launch of its Home Vista - a PC integrated into a 32-inch LCD high definition TV - later this year will open up a new and lucrative revenue stream. "It has a multi-purpose application with split-screen capabilities," explained Samer Atassi, sales manager at DTK. "The user can watch a TV at the same time as surfing the internet, using their own PC application or watching a PC video file on the TV itself. It is a convergence of technologies between PCs and the high-definition TV."

DTK first showcased its Home Vista model at last year's Gitex exhibition and claims it received a positive response. It is now hoping to use the product to further its ambitions in the consumer electronics channel. "Currently, our major growth is coming from our PC shipments, but we now have an initiative of running out projects based on the Home Vista," continued Atassi. "Technology is going towards that direction so we expect the product to perform well. It is still at an early stage but we believe that the market will soon be equipped for such a product," he added.

Atassi also confirmed that the firm is seeking to expand its sales channels in markets such as Kenya and Sudan.
