UAE bank implements IP telephony network

Real Estate Bank has partnered with systems integrator Alpha Data on a US$270,000 project to modernise its IT infrastructure, including network and telephony systems.

The UAE government bank, which provides real estate credit for firms and individuals, is deploying an integrated technology solution consisting of structured cabling, networking and telephony systems, local and wide area networks, servers, firewalls, and internet protocol (IP) telephones.

Juniper Networks and Nortel are supplying the network systems while Nortel is providing the IP telephony.

The implementation, which began last week, should take one month to finish.

Sherifa Al Jaberi, IT manager of Real Estate Bank, told IT Weekly the upgrade would support the firm's expanding operations, as it moved out of temporary offices into its own buildings.

A key part of the project is the provision of a backup system, Al Jaberi added.

"The most critical part of it is that we are going to have full disaster recovery system in Dubai, which is a replica of the Abu Dhabi network," she said.

Benefits of the implementation will include greater efficiency and more reliable connectivity between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, Al Jaberi said.
