Telecoms sector to hit $70bn revenue

The region's telecoms and broadband market will attract $70 billion in revenue by 2015, according to Madar Research.

Revealed at the MECOM 2007 exhibition in Abu Dhabi this week, a report by the regional market intelligence firm indicates that the Middle East telecoms market will soon tip $50 billion.

According to Madar Research's ICT Use Index, the Arab World saw a 43% increase in the average use of information and communications technology (ICT) from 2004 to 2005.

The ICT Index covers based fixed line subscribers, mobile phone subscribers, internet users and computer-installed base.

"The regional telecommunications sector is going through an exciting phase, fuelled by huge advances in technologies and market liberalisation," said David Hirst, Exhibition Director at MECOM Forums.
