Kempinski offers ski and sun

by Chris Jackson on Wednesday, 25 April 2007
The Kempinski’s Ski Chalets expected to become a destination in their own right.

The Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates Ski Chalets may have been a long time coming, but initial reactions suggest they were worth the wait.

The fifteen chalets, which overlook the slopes of Ski Dubai, are expected to open after the Arabian Travel Market.

The chalets range in size from the 45m2 Ski Chalets to the opulent three-bedroom 228m2 Grand Ski Chalets, with two bedrooms overlooking the slopes of Ski Dubai and the master bedroom commanding views of the iconic Jumeirah skyline.

Kempinski regional director of public relations Middle East and Africa Doaa Amin said each chalet was fitted with custom trimmings and furniture.

"The interiors are designed to reflect a modern European style with elegant, cozy interiors, polished wood floors, warm colour schemes and marble bathroom fittings," she explained.

"In addition the Ski Chalets will have a private check-in reception area, butler service, access to the executive lounge and Ski Dubai, special guest amenities and a complementary Audi limousine upon availability or prior reservation."

Amin said the chalets had already received a lot of interest from GCC and Russian leisure travellers, but they would also market the inventory to corporate bookings for unique meeting spaces and function venues.

Room rates start at AED 7500 (US $2042), with a night in one of the three bedroom chalets set to cost AED 45,000 (US $12,252).

"The Ski Chalets are one of the most unique room products in the region, if not the world, and as such they fit into a category of superior niche accommodation that will see the chalets becoming a destination in their own right," she concluded.

Construction of the chalets proved to be quite challenging, with the contrast between extreme temperatures of Ski Dubai and the surrounding environment causing condensation issues on the windows overlooking Ski Dubai.
