Horeca Kuwait hopeful

Horeca Lebanon was another example of Lebanese resilience, welcomng more than 15,000 visitors this year.

The fourteenth edition of Horeca Lebanon, held in Beirut at the end of March, welcomed more than 15,000 visitors from Lebanon and across the Middle East.

Attracting key decision makers from major establishments such as hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, supermarkets, equipment and food and beverage suppliers, the event was an important milestone in Lebanon's recovery according to Pierre Achkar, president of the Association of Hoteliers, and president of the Federation of Tourist Associations in Lebanon.

"Since Horeca was born in 1999, acts of violence and terror have failed to weaken or discourage it. Horeca is a true resemblance of Lebanon in its resilience and natural ability to excel and even grow despite adversity," he said.

The Salon Culinaire event, now in its eighth year, ran alongside the exhibition and saw more than 120 chefs compete in 12 different food categories.

"[The exhibition] served as a key opportunity to promote Lebanese products, companies and skills," said Joumana-Dammous Salamé, managing director of organising company, Hospitality Services. The company is now working with Universal Business Solutions from Kuwait to organise the Horeca Kuwait event, which will take place from May 27-29.

A large number of visitors and participants are again expected to attend the trade show, which will host companies not only from Kuwait, but also from Iraq, Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Bahrain.

Universal Business Solutions general manager Rabee Baadarani said the Kuwaiti government was expending a lot of effort to activate the country's tourism sector.

"Indications show that in the coming two years, Kuwait will witness noticeable development in the overall hospitality industry," he added.
