Aldar sets sights on the capital

Aldar will develop a luxury resort on two islands off the west coast of Abu Dhabi in a joint venture with the National Corporation for Tourism and Hotels (NCTH).
The five-star resort will include 128 guest rooms, two Royal suites, 10 private villas, 20 Club suites, a spa, four restaurants and its own private marina for VIP guests and hotel excursions.
Developments planned for the islands will link them together, increasing the water frontage and forming a lagoon at the development's centre.
Aldar senior project leader Rami Hreiki said the resort was expected to open in 2009: "Discussions are well underway with one of the world's leading luxury resort operators, which will manage the property, and we hope to make an announcement very shortly."
NCTH managing director Abdulla Khalfan Al Romaithi said both companies "have a vested interest in the future of Abu Dhabi and in developing quality projects that generate greater choice and competition in the market".
