Rezidor to debut in UAE capital

by Sarah Gain on Wednesday, 02 May 2007
The Regent Emirates Pearl will be the Rezidor Hotel Group’s first property in the UAE capital.

The Rezidor Hotel Group intends to introduce it's high-end luxury brand Regent to the Middle East with a landmark property in Abu Dhabi. The hotel, which marks the group's first foray into the UAE capital, is due to open in 2010 the company announced at Arabian Travel Market.

The Regent Emirates Pearl, Abu Dhabi will be located on the south-west side of the Abu Dhabi corniche and will offer 365 rooms and suites, along with 70 furnished apartments.

"Tourism in Abu Dhabi is currently undergoing a major transformation and will soon become one of the region's top business and leisure destinations, so it is important that Rezidor is part of this development," said Jean-Marc Busato, area vice president of the Rezidor Hotel Group.

The US $175 million, 47-storey development is owned by Atlas Group and is a joint venture with the Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), the company charged with leveraging the tourism assets of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.

Facilities at the hotel will include extensive banquet and meeting facilities, an exclusive beach club with private beach access, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a health club and a spa.

A 20m-high atrium will form the centre of the lobby, where guests will also be offered six F&B options, including a restaurant on an island connected to the hotel.

"We are positive that the property will be well-received by the upscale business and leisure travellers, and anticipate a mix of around 65% business and 35% leisure customers," said Busato. "The various industries currently thriving in the region will feed our corporate business, while the main target for leisure business will be the GCC, and also developing markets such as India and China."

Busato added that future Regent-branded projects could include properties on Dubai's offshore developments, as well as in Qatar, Egypt, and most major cities in the region.

"The Regent in Abu Dhabi will raise the bar of the emirate's hospitality offerings," he said. "Our UAE portfolio is expanding and our aim is to have a presence in each emirate within the next five years."
