Dr Moopen Group braced for GCC expansion

The head of one of the UAE's largest healthcare chains has announced plans to more than double the Group's facilities in the next five years.
Dr Azad Moopen, chairman of Dr Moopen's Group, said the company aimed to boost the number of establishments from 40 to 100, amid plans to reposition itself as a GCC-wide brand.
The move would make Dr Moopen's Group one of the largest providers of private healthcare in the GCC region.
Commenting on the announcement, he said nonchalantly, "It's not very difficult. We have neighbourhood clinics that cost perhaps AED 100,000 to establish, alongside AED 120 million hospitals.
"We currently have two hospitals, and we want another eight in the GCC countries. We have already identified a site in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for our next hospital and we'll start developing it next year. Then it's on to Riyadh, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar."
The Group plans to invest more than AED 900 million in the expansion plans, Moopen added, with an eye to snaring medical tourists as a significant source of future revenue.
"With the completion of Dubai Healthcare City on the horizon, in another five years or so down the line, the UAE is going to be a major destination for MENA residents," he said.
"If the current healthcare spend is, say, AED 50 billion, it will become 75 billion in that time."
Dr Moopen's Group has been active in the UAE for 20 years.
