Sanofi Aventis hangs up on Nortel system
by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer on Thursday, 10 May 2007
Pharmaceutical giant Sanofi Aventis is implementing an internet protocol (IP) communications solution from Mitel across its offices in Saudi Arabia to reduce call costs.
The company is installing Mitel's voice over IP (VoIP) solution to network its offices in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, enabling toll free internal calls between sites.
Previously Sanofi Aventis used a PBX system from Nortel; one reason for the switch was the company felt Nortel's customer support in Saudi Arabia was "not strong", Mohab Faisal, IT manager at Sanofi Aventis, told IT Weekly.
Another reason for choosing Mitel was because the solution was cost effective, he said, without disclosing the value of the contract.
The deployment would enable ease of connection between the sites, confidentiality of data, and voice compression, meaning that calls could be made using the same line and using minimal bandwidth, Faisal added.
The firm has already begun rolling out the solution at its offices in Riyadh, he said, and will move on to install the technology at the other offices in Saudi.
There are no plans to deploy the solution elsewhere in the region, Faisal added. Sanofi Aventis also has offices in the UAE, Egypt and Lebanon.
