WEF special: Emaar launches its largest Jordan project
by James Bennett on Sunday, 20 May 2007
Emaar International has unveiled its biggest project in Jordan so far in the presence of His Majesty King Abdullah II during the World Economic Forum - the US$500m Samarah Dead Sea golf and beach resort.
The King of Jordan witnessed the unveiling of the mixed-use project alongside Emaar chairman Mohammed Alabbar. To drive the tourism and property markets, "Emaar is aligned to the development vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II, whose initiatives have strengthened the Kingdom's economy and makes it an ideal destination for significant investments," said Alabbar.
"We are thankful to His Majesty for inspiring us to share our development expertise, which in turn, has been achieved through the far-sighted policies of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, UAE Vice President & Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai."
Samarah Dead Sea Golf and Beach resort is located along the Dead Sea coast and is the largest mixed-use, master-planned project in Jordan.
"The project will further strengthen the tourism initiatives of the Kingdom by serving as a world-class residential, commercial, leisure and retail environment," an Emaar statement read.
"The project will lead to faster economic growth by generating employment opportunities for Jordanians, creating several ancillary industries and lending support to the tourism sector," added Alabbar.
The resort will feature several hundred luxury apartments and villas, advanced commercial facilities, an 18-hole golf course and club house, retail outlets and several entertainment options that will appeal to a cosmopolitan audience.
Emaar International Jordan is a wholly owned country subsidiary of Emaar Properties.
