Nakheel consults environmental experts

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer on Saturday, 26 May 2007

Nakheel is placing sustainability at the top of its agenda by bringing together a team of international experts to review the environmental aspects of its projects and operations.

The Sustainability Advisory Group is in the process of compiling a sustainability assessment for Nakheel.

Led by project director, Georgina Legoe, the team has extensive experience in corporate sustainability planning and management.

It has previously worked with companies such as The Body Shop International, Westfield, BP, Siemens and Toyota as well as with global sustainability organisations including the OECD Panel on Sustainability.

"In building the vision of Dubai, Nakheel will be creating communities for an expected population of more than one million people in the coming decade," said Abdulrahman Kalantar, director of Nakheel's Design Group.

"Therefore it is absolutely essential that our projects are sustainable in the long term; to guarantee the continued growth and progress of Dubai for generations to come."

Nakheel's work with the Sustainability Advisory Group follows the signing of a strategic agreement with the United Nations University (UNU) in January.

The agreement on Marine Ecosystem Management sees the development of a comprehensive monitoring programme for the waters of the Arabian Gulf that will help maintain sustainable marine ecosystems.
