Advance International, the specialist project cargo forwarder, recently moved an enormous Methanol Cracker Column from Italy to Saudi Arabia as part of a major project freight management contract being undertaken on behalf of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI).
Loaded on MV Fair Partner, the 457 tonne shipment was 66.87 metres long, and nine metres in height. It forms part of the multi-million dollar Saudi Methanol Company's new AR-Razi V methanol plant being constructed by MHI at Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
The column was manufactured by Walter Tosto Serbatoi SpA. of Ortona, Italy and is the longest and heaviest item ever made by the company in over 100 years of manufacturing.
In addition to a number of smaller breakbulk shipments, three other smaller columns were also shipped at the same time.
"This was one of the largest shipments ever to move through the port of Ortona and went without a hitch as a result of some careful preparation and planning by our project team," said Jawad Kamel, Advance International president and CEO.
Advance International is the principal freight forwarder contracted to ship thousands of items of equipment to construct the complex.
