Christie lands in Dubai
by Aaron Greenwood on Tuesday, 05 June 2007
Digital imaging projector specialist Christie has established new regional headquarters in Dubai in a bid to capitalise on emerging commercial opportunities in the Middle East.
The new HQ is located in the Dubai Airport Free Zone and is housed in the same office as Dubai Airport security contractor and Christie client Transguard Group. The office is being used to showcase display systems from Christie's command and control portfolio, which is also providing the infrastructure for a new 24-hour security and surveillance operation monitoring the airport.
Christie EMEA sales director Simon Smith said the decision to establish a dedicated sales office in Dubai followed a period of sustained growth for the company in the region since 2002 - a period in which its EMEA sales trebled.
"We've seen a lot of [commercial] growth in [the Middle East] over the last few years and we are looking to consolidate that growth by laying the right foundations to support our customers and partners in the region," he said.
Christie products have been used in a number of major productions in the Middle East in recent years. One of the company's most high-profile installations is found at the Al Sahra Desert Resort ampitheatre in Dubai, which hosts the ongoing production of Jumana - Secret of the Desert and features an array of Christie 25K projectors.
Christie, which recently celebrated 75 years of operation, is credited with many industry firsts in the field of CRT systems, cinema and digital projection, and has received two awards for technical excellence from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
