To mark World Environment Day, TECOM displayed a pile of snow in Dubai Media City. Expected to melt within 10 days, the display was designed to remind passers by of climate change.

A fully comprehensive eco-friendly community is to be built in Dubai by TECOM Investments. The 2.4 million m2 Energy and Environment Park (ENPARK) will consist of several components including ‘green' commercial office space, retail and boutique manufacturing facilities as well as showrooms for energy saving technologies.

The park will also house energy efficient residential units as well as a ‘green' hotel and conference areas. An academic component will offer renewable energy and environment related education programmes and a sustainable development research centre.

"ENPARK will host a model community with a significantly reduced ecological footprint, demonstrating that it is possible to have lower overall lifecycle costs and increased energy savings by adopting a sustainable culture," said Ali bin Towaih, director, ENPARK. "Offering a healthier environment for people to live, work and learn as well as for leisure, ENPARK will conform to sustainability standards by utilising the available natural resources."

Developers will work with leading energy and environmental companies to ensure best practices and policies are implemented in every element of the design and construction of the park. The community will include renewable and efficient water utilities, as well as clean and efficient transportation facilities as part of its infrastructure. Intelligent building systems, including energy management control, renewable energy production monitoring, fire alarm monitoring and security systems, will also be a feature. Phase one of the development is scheduled for completion by 2010.

The ENPARK project follows the launch last year of a ‘Sustainable Development Policy' by TECOM.
