Notebook vendor Toshiba has made two new appointments in a bid to localise its focus in the Middle East. Anil Warang and John Maliakal have joined the vendor to provide a more concentrated approach to the GCC and East Africa.

Warang will head sales, marketing and market development operations in the UAE and East Africa while Maliakal is set to oversee the computer sales division in Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain.

"These new appointments underline Toshiba's commitment to working closely with channel partners to ensure maximum support for them and our customers," commented Santosh Varghese, general manager at Toshiba computer systems division, Middle East and Africa. "Furthermore, the combination of experience and their knowledge of the market makes our new country managers uniquely qualified for their positions and we are confident that they will be a great asset for Toshiba," he added.

Warang brings to the table more than 15 years of experience in IT and management. Previously a business manager at Emitac Distribution for HP PSG, he was responsible for the entire GCC. Maliakal has been in the industry for 8 years. During his tenure at Jumbo Electronics, Maliakal was twice named the ‘highest performer' for Ricoh and ‘best new entrant with outstanding performance' for Toshiba notebooks in the UAE.

"Above all other IT manufacturers, Toshiba's name is associated with premium quality products," said Maliakal. "It was a privilege to be offered a position at Toshiba and I am excited about this new challenge. I know that my renewed determination as well as my expertise will help Toshiba grow further and extend its market leading position across the region," he added.

Warang also conveyed his excitement moving into the new role and claims he is relishing the prospect of addressing a new region. "My goal is to continue building on the success of Toshiba and to help our customers take advantage of a new generation of technology," concluded Warang.
