Emaar has revealed the winning entry for its competition to name the Burj Dubai fountain.

It will be called “The Dubai Fountain” – and the fifteen people who suggested it will share the 100,000 dirham prize money.

More than 4,000 participants representing over 100 nationalities took part in the competition, which was held from July 1 to September 15, Emaar said in a statement on Sunday.

Although the competition was open only to UAE residents, entries were received from all across the globe.

“The name Dubai Fountain is simple, has instant brand recall and above all, celebrates the global standing of Dubai as a multicultural destination and home to over 180 nationalities. Dubai Fountain is our tribute to this city, which serves as a platform for thousands of people to realise their dreams and enjoy a vibrant, modern lifestyle,” Emaar chairman Mohamed Ali Alabbar said in the statement.

Dubai Fountain is over 900 ft (275 metres) in length, and has been designed by California-based WET – the company behind ‘The Fountains’ at Bellagio in Las Vegas.

Guys, you can't expect a second grader to understand Aeronautics. It's whose mistake? You have to advise, suggest, comment, name only according to the capacity of the other party. Hope I made my point.

Sometimes we can't see the obvious due to our blurred vision or our preoccupied minds. Save your energy and innovation for some other time, place or for personal improvement. Don't think too far in a small, congested place, where you don't know what will happen tomorrow. Anyway, the grapes were sour.

Of course, the really smart money would say that Emaar had, long ago, decided on the name for the fountain, and that the 'competition' was simply an exercise in drumming up a bit of publicity. Plus it also means that (perhaps being aware of the potential criticism for the name) they can blame the public of Dubai for their own poor branding skills.

Once again... Dubai Fountain, DubaiLand, Dubai Mall, Dubai Metro, Fly Dubai, Dubai Jet, Dubai Beach, Bur Dubai :-), Dubai Tower, so many.... Come on guys some originality, some name which is unique. I am sure Emaar can do better than this... such a boring name. I seriously hope the powers to be reconsider this name

While it may make sense for the industrial parks and other govt. owned business entities to carry the brand name Dubai i.e DIC, DMC, DSC, DIP and the list goes on, one would think the landmarks would have a little more mystery to them, so that people visit the place out of curiosity if nothing else. Frankly, if they wanted to get so elementary, BurjFountain would have not only given it a meaning but also signified its height, beauty and strength, seeing as this water feature will be against the backdrop of a record breaking world iconic development. Hopefully, the other master developers will show some creativity, should they decide to rival the Dubai Fountain.
