USB flash drives have become synonymous with data sharing thanks to their small sizes, reasonable capacities, quick performance and last but not least, very decent pricing.

That said however, their small size and sometimes-fragile nature mean they can be lost or damaged easily, especially if you venture outdoors.

Imation is looking to change this with its Clip Flash Drive.

The drive is so named due to its oversized metal clip.

This allows you to ‘clip’ the drive onto belt loops, bags, briefcases and more, meaning there’s no chance of the drive falling out of your pocket.

You can of course still lose it if you forget to clip it on to something, but there’s not much any manufacturer can do about that.

The Clip also features water resistant casing - handy if you’re out and about and find yourself in an admittedly rare downpour.

Going further still, the Imation’s rubber exterior is sturdy and the drive functioned as normal even after we deliberately tried to bend it.

Imation’s Drive Manager software is included.

This proved very simple to use and lets you easily password-protect the drive.

When put to the test, our 2Gbyte test sample proved quite a fast worker.

HDTach 3 showed an average read speed of 9.6Mbytes/s and a burst speed of 13.8Mbytes/s which makes the Imation slightly quicker at moving data than the Simpletech SimpleDrive Mini.

Specifications

USB flash drive, 2Gbytes of storage capacity, clip security system, water-resistant case, Imation Drive Manager, 32.8ms access time, 9.6Mbytes/s average read, 13.8Mbytes/s burst speed, five-year warranty.

Verdict: A fast flash drive that’s tough to damage or lose.

A good buy then for users with a taste for the outdoors.
