Devaki Khimji

Company: Al Turki Enterprises

Designation: Executive Director

Established in 1976, Al Turki Enterprises (ATE) has grown to become a firm fixture within Oman’s construction sector.

A member of the company’s founding family, executive director Devaki Khimji is responsible for a workforce of almost 25,000 construction professionals, more than 2,000 of whom are qualified engineers. Encouragingly, this figure has grown significantly during recent years. ATE’s workforce saw a more-than threefold increase between 2008 and 2015, and last year the company achieved revenues of approximately $650m (OMR250m).

During the past 12 months, ATE has fulfilled its role as main contractor at a selection of large-scale developments in the sultanate. Contracts completed between June 2015 and May 2016 include residential and infrastructure development for Phase 1 of Ras Al Hamra; main construction of a small arms ammunition factory in Samail; an office complex in Qurum; and construction of additional buildings for the Royal Office and Ring Road.

During the course of the coming year, Khimji’s team will continue to support construction at a number of major developments in Oman.

ATE’s executive director told Construction Week that her team would exploit opportunities “by being selective and maximising added value for our tenders”, adding that she expects to win another major contract in the not-too-distant future.

She added: “[Our biggest challenge] will be securing the workload to keep our resources fully utilised.”
