Symantec pushes transaction protection

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Friday, 10 November 2006

This SYMANTEC has announced the worldwide availability of Norton Confidential — a solution designed to protect consumers conducting transactions online.

Norton Confidential is designed to protect against fraudulent phishing web sites and crimeware and providers users with clear visual indicators of whether it is safe to conduct their business online.

The firm believes that crimeware — a form of malware which is focused on information and identity theft — poses an increasing threat to consumers doing online transactions.

Indeed, Symantec’s most recent Internet Security Threat Report found that during the period of January to June 2006, 30 of the top 50 malicious code samples were used to expose a user’s confidential information.

“Home computer users are under attack by cybercriminals who are looking to gain financially by defrauding consumers — a sobering reality that led Symantec to create Norton Confidential,” said Enrique Salem, president of the consumer business unit at Symantec.

“Norton Confidential helps protect consumers from cybercriminals and hackers and it also gives consumers peace of mind and confidence when shopping online, banking online or conducting other sensitive transactions on the internet,” he claimed.

Symantec claims that Norton Confidential is the only transaction security product which protects against both phishing and crimeware with a single solution.

It blocks or warns consumers from accessing phishing web sites and blocks eye stroke logging and screencapture from eavesdropping software when an online transaction is about to take place.

“A comprehensive transaction security solution that addresses online fraud at both the phishing and crimeware level is what today’s connected consumer needs,” said Jonathan Singer, analyst at the Yankee Group. “Computer users are less trusting of the internet and the transactions they conduct online. A product like Norton Confidential addresses a growing market need and helps strengthen and secure consumer trust online.”

Norton Confidential’s key features include: phishing protection, crimeware protection, and password security and blocking.

A Norton Confidential toolbar sits alongside the user’s browser toolware telling users whether transactions they are conducting are secure.lurred image taken on a mobile phone shows a Dell laptop exploding at a conference in Osaka, Japan.
