ENTERPRISE ENCRYPTION software vendor Pointsec has teamed up with Smart Card ID provider ActivIdentity to offer a combined security solution for government and business customers.
Pointsec has integrated its Pointsec for PC solution with ActivIdentity smart cards and USB tokens configured for use with ActivClient middleware and ActivIdentity applications to provide a complete data protection solution.
This will provide customers with both two factor authentication and endpoint encryption protection, the firm said.
“The demand for two factor authentication solutions is growing as enterprises and governments become more aware of the need to provider stronger access control to corporate information and resources,” said Marc Hudavert, vice president of sales and general manager of ActivIdentity EMEA.
“Pointsec is a leader in mobile data protection and the integrated solutions offer our joint customers another important layer of protection for their endpoint equipment,” he added.
Hudavert said his company would continue to work closely with Pointsec on developing other integrated solutions.
“ActivIdentity is an industry leader in digital identity assurance solutions and we look forward to our continued collaboration in years to come,” he said.
Pointsec’s software is designed to encrypt the entire disk of a notebook or desktop PC in real time and to only allow authenticated users access to the information on that PC.
Full disk encryption protects the OS and sensitive system files, ensuring that all security vulnerabilities are closed.
Pointsec’s technology is based on an access control architecture, the Multi Factor Authentication Engine, which streamlines the addition and management of an additional authentication factor such as a USB token or smart card, making it easy to integrate the two technologies.
“As workforces grow more mobile, the risk of exposing sensitive customer or business information from lost or stolen laptops has become a major concern for corporations and government agencies,” said Peter Larsson, CEO of Pointsec.
