Source IT opening Saudi logistics centre

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Tuesday, 31 October 2006

Mobile handset, accessories and IT-peripherals distributor Source IT has confirmed plans to establish a new logistics and warehousing facility in Saudi Arabia.

The new facility, which will be based in Riyadh, marks the first Saudi-based venture established by Source IT.

The company previously serviced its Saudi retail clients from its headquarters in Dubai, but Source IT director Ahmed Al-Azzawi said booming Saudi consumer demand for mobile and IT products forced it to rethink this strategy.

“While we already boasted a minor presence in the country, this new facility will provide our Saudi-based retail customers with improved service and stock delivery times,” he said.

“We’ve been receiving significant orders from some of the country’s biggest consumer electronics and IT retailers. This new facility will enable us to better meet this market demand. From a channel perspective, Saudi Arabia is a developing market that offers major commercial opportunities in the long-term.”

Al-Azzawi said the company hoped to confirm a location for its new warehousing facility shortly and had already recruited staff to oversee the operation.

Fellow Source IT director Chris Rae confirmed the new facility would enable the company to offer improved after-sales servicing and logistics support to its Saudi retail partners.

“Our new service centre will act as a buffer between the consumer, retailers and vendors, to ensure products requiring after-sales service are fixed and returned to the customer according to schedule,” he said.
