Barney set for Mother & Baby event

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Tuesday, 31 October 2006

Organisers of the Mother, Baby and Child Show 2006, which is due to take place at Dubai International Exhibition Centre (DIEC) on December 14-16, have confirmed key details of the event, including the presence of popular children’s characters Barney and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The presence of the dinosaur character, Barney, is likely to be a big attraction at the event and confirmation that the character will be attending the show is also likely to be good news for exhibitors, including Mothercare, Nestle, Gerber and Unilever, who are hoping to expose their brands and products to around 25,000 visitors.

“The Mother, Baby and Child Show brings brand values to life and key marketing messages are reinforced in a fun and stimulating environment,” said Shannon Norris, events director at The Main Event, the organiser of the show. “The show provides products and services with a platform to build new relationships as well as nurturing existing consumers in this dynamic and fast-growing marketplace. It’s about appropriate awareness – superior relationships and increased sales,” she added.

The event will also include fashion shows, music, games and competitions. The main stage will include activities from 10am to 10pm, including musical shows featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Care Bears and other popular children’s characters.

Other activities include the Mothercare car safety workshops, dance performances by local school children, and a children’s fashion show. Mothercare is providing a pushchair testing assault course, as a ‘try it before you buy it’ test. Meanwhile, a seminar area sponsored by Calpol will offer parents free advice on topics such as pain and fever management and infant first aid. The UAE’s Ministry of Education and Youth will address the role of health and sport in child development. Channel 4 FM will transmit live links daily across its three radio stations. The broadcasts will include interviews with exhibitors, mothers, fathers and children, as well as reviews of competitions and activities, giving listeners a chance to win prizes including Mothercare hampers, bicycles, beauty kits and vouchers.
