No more 6Days

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Sunday, 12 November 2006

The Spin is sad to announce that from henceforth he will no longer refer to UAE free sheet 7Days as 6Days. As of yesterday the newspaper started publishing every Saturday. The Spin would like to think that its year-and-a-half of 6Days jibes contributed to the decision, but thinks Britain's Associated Newspaper's 60% buyout of the paper's management team had more to do with it. 6Days, you will be missed.

It's not every day that The Spin receives freeze-dried ice cream in the post, but CNN used it to promote its upcoming CNN Future Summit that will debate the future of space travel with none other than Buzz Aldrin. The chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavoured "Space Food" made The Spin sit up and take notice, and certainly beats other press release attention grabbers given out.

Who says people who work in IT are all geeks. If a press conference invitation issued by Spot On PR is anything to go by, the people at OKI Printing Solutions sure know how to have a good time. Pictured next to a smart looking sailing boat are the words: "Steve Diamond's new yacht, the SS Saucy Sue." And: "You are invited to join us for a little work, a little play-" The Spin will look at IT bods in a whole new light from now on.

The Spin's award for press release of the week goes to Financial Dynamics for depositing this gem in his inbox: "Dubai Sports City awards sewage treatment plant contract." Never one to miss an opportunity to update himself on the sewerage systems of Dubai real estate developments, The Spin eagerly clicked through to the press release. Well, he would have done, but they forgot to attach it. Oh, poo.

"Chinese anyone?" If so, The Spin recommends you get yourselves down to the Habtoor Grand Resort in Dubai. That's right. According to a release from Advertising & Marketing Consultants there's a Mongolian BBQ promo on at the resort, where one can avail of "seafood, meat vegetable with different kind of sauce and spices". Hang on a second... last time The Spin checked, Mongolia was a country in its own right. With its own distinct style of cooking. Good job Genghis Khan's popped his clogs.

The Spin is a dedicated follower of fashion, always asking what's new, pussycat? And it seems that the people at UAE fashion store Stradivarius are the ones to ask. Apparently, the so-called "women's jean", as seen by catwalk diva "Kat Moss", will give a bit of an 80s flavour to the coming season. Meeow.
