And the winners are...

Over 400 industry executives and IT professionals gathered together to celebrate the technology leaders and pioneers of the Arab world at last week’s IT Weekly Middle East Arab Technology Awards.

The gala event, held at the prestigious Habtoor Grand Hotel in Dubai, took place on the second evening of Gitex.

In total, 17 individual and company awards were given out, recognising outstanding contributions in the fields of hardware, software, infrastructure and services.

In addition to the 15 company awards — chosen by the readers of IT Weekly and ITP.net — two of the region’s leading IT professionals’ contributions to the development of the Middle East’s information and communications technology industry were acknowledged.

Abdullatif Al Mulla, CEO of Tecom Investments, received the accolade of Outstanding Contribution to Information & Communications Technology; one of many such accolades he has won in a distinguished career.

Dr Walid Moneimne, senior vice president of Nokia Networks for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), was recognised for Lifetime Achievement.

The headline sponsor for the event was management software firm CA, with Symbol Technologies and Cognos providing category sponsorship.

CA’s Gilbert Lacroix had reason of his own to celebrate last week — his current role as vice president and area manager Eastern Markets has been

extended to include vice president EMEA channels.
