Future TV's GM quits for consultant role

The general manager of Lebanon's Future Television has quit the station but will remain with the company that owns the channel in an advisory role, Campaign can reveal.

Tarek Ayntrazi, who joined the Beirut-based entertainment channel from Starcom last year, is acting as a consultant on media and communication matters to the chairman of the Hariri Group, which owns Future TV.

A statement issued by the channel said: "Future TV, one of the leading media organisations in the Arab world, announced this week the resignation of Tarek Ayntrazi from his position as general manager. Ayntrazi leaves Future TV to pursue other interests.

"Future TV will be announcing within the next few weeks further details about their expansion strategy and new appointments."

Speaking to Campaign, Ayntrazi said: "All I can say is that I have moved within the group, that is basically it.

"I'm still with the Hariri Group, but not dealing with the television at this stage.

"I am working as an advisor to the chairman on media and communication related issues.

"It is positive for me and the television. The TV is about to move into a change period, this was one step in that direction. There will be some announcements made in the near future."

Future TV, which is owned by the family of assassinated former prime minister Rafik Hariri, has struggled against other pan-Arab channels such as LBC and MBC.

It has announced plans to revamp and freshen its programming in order to bring it closer to Arab audiences, particularly in Saudi Arabia.

Asked when the changes will come into effect, Ayntrazi would only say: "I don't want to say too much, but there are significant changes that will be made public soon that will signal the beginning of a new era."
