The Abu Dhabi-Kochi Air India Express IX 452 veered off the taxiway at the Kochi airport after it arrived on Tuesday morning.

The incident was reported a minute after the flight landed.

Air India Express issued a statement that said: “During heavy rain last night at about 2:40 IST, while entering the bay from the taxiway at Kochi, our aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, skidded off the taxiway and the wheels got stuck in a storm water drain on the side of the taxiway opposite the International airport terminal.

“The aircraft had just arrived at Kochi from Abu Dhabi with 102 passengers and six crew. All passengers and crew exited from the doors by normal step ladder and there were no injuries.”

Initial reports indicated that the nose wheel of the Boeing 737-800 aircraft also collapsed shortly after the flight went off the taxiway.

According to sources, the aircraft has been grounded. An internal inquiry by the aviation regulator Director General of Civil Aviation [DGCA] has also been instigated.
