Geek of the week

While this issue’s GOTW had the demeanour of a geek, his full geekiness hasn’t been revealed until now. So take a bow US musician Moby.

He leapt to the defence of geeks everywhere after Bill O’Reilly, a newsman for Fox News satellite TV network made some dis- paraging rem- arks about Apple’s iPod and its users. According to US entertainment website Starpulse.com, O’Reilly called all iPod users “geeks” and implied that those who bought one were socially inept.

The newsman said: “I don’t own an iPod. I would never wear an iPod. Did you ever talk to these computer geeks? I mean, can you carry on a conversation with them?” Moby hit back on behalf of iPod users and geeks: “In the 21st century, what defines a ‘computer geek’?

“Bill O’Reilly must be very lonely, only being able to carry on conversations with the 2% of people in the western world who don’t use computers for their work and entertainment.” You tell him, Moby.
