The UAE’s encumbent telecom operator Etisalat announced a string of new or extended agreements last month.
Firstly, it expanded its partnership with Orange Business Services, the business services arm of France Telecom.
Under the terms of the new agreement, the companies, which have worked together for the past six years, will combine forces to further develop secure and scaleable internet protocol (IP) virtual private network (VPN) solutions thus enabling Etisalat to deliver a network service to its customers over the Orange Business Services network.
“With the phenomenal growth of businesses in the UAE, companies are extending their coverage and their presence within the local market and outside,” said Sadik Al-Jadir, senior manager marketing business at Etisalat.
“For that they need global connectivity. Being a regional player, Etisalat relies on partnerships with major telecom service providers such as Orange to extend its coverage and global reach.”
Ahmed Hamzawy, regional manager, Orange Business Services Middle East and North Africa (MENA), commented: “This agreement comes as a result of a very good working relationship and joint effort between the two companies. As a long-standing partner of Etisalat and with the world’s largest VPN, Orange Business Services is ideally placed to deliver this additional connectivity for Etisalat and its customers.”
Etisalat has also signed a strategic partnership agreement with Omania E-Commerce, a leading ICT solution provider, in an initiative aimed at rolling out integrated market specific ICT solutions to customers in Oman.
The solutions will be in the areas of e-government, e-business, e-security and e-consultancy with a specific focus on infrastructure outsourcing, managed services, e-government services and e-payment services, the operator said.
Plus, in addition to its agreement with global telecommunications giant AT&T, Etisalat also inked a new agreement with Bahrain’s Batelco to provide a range of data communication services to the two companies’ customers and enhance the geographical reach of their operations.
The agreement with Batelco focuses on the provision of IP-VPN technology.
Etisalat also recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Telkom Kenya to construct, operate and maintain a high-capacity fibre optic submarine cable system between Mombassa in Kenya and Fujairah in the UAE.
