Chad Oppenheim of Oppenheim Architecture and Design has designed Miami’s first ‘green’ tower in collaboration with engineer Ysrael Seinuk and energy consultant Buro Happold.
Ground breaking for the sustainable mixed-use building COR will begin in July 2007.
Unanimously approved by the Urban Design Review Board of the City of Miami, the 400 ft tower will employ the latest developments in wind turbines, photovoltaic panels, and solar hot water generation in order to produce its own power.
A major design and engineering breakthrough is the multi-purpose, hyper-efficient shell, which supplies building structure and thermal mass for insulation as well as shading for natural cooking, enclosure for terraces, and armatures for turbines.
The building will employ a wide variety of cost-effective design strategies.
