National Commercial Bank of Saudi Arabia has signed an agreement with Bahrain-based software development company, 01 Systems WII, to purchase its Computer Output to Laser Disk (COLD) document management solution, DocSafe COLD.

According to NCB executives, the decision was made in order to increase the bank’s ability to increase the speed of servicing customer requests, as well as streamlining their own archival systems. The implementation of the software, which incorporates a comprehensive training programme, is scheduled to begin as soon as the bank installs the requisite hardware, a date for which has yet to be set.

“The tremendous acceleration in technology, and the resultant demands placed on banks in this age of e-commerce and globalisation forced us to rethink our business strategy,” commented Amgad Selim, senior IT manager at NCB. “This includes the way we manage information. As one of our primary assets, information needs to be stored and managed in such a way that it is immediately accessible so we can meet our customer’s demands swiftly and reliably. That is why a document management solution was vital to us.”

DocSafe is an enterprise-wide document management system, which facilitates archival, search, retrieval and viewing of documents across a corporate intranet or global network over the Internet.

“I think that DocSafe’s primary benefit to NCB will be enhanced immediate data access,” said Ali Sharif, president and CEO of 01 Systems. “Moreover, as part of an open modular Internet-based solution, it will allow NCB easy upgrade options as their requirements evolve.”

The solution allows information to be stored in such a way so as to take as little space as possible while being easily accessible. Without the physical limitations of Microfiche and paper-based systems, corporate data is accessible to larger user systems without queues and bottlenecks.
