MBC4 roadshows target young Arab women

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Sunday, 10 December 2006

Pan-Arab satellite channel MBC4 has launched an initiative aimed at young Arab women designed to stimulate debate about the role of women in society.

Called 'I Matter', a series of roadshows have started in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, covering topics ranging from confidence building and personal strength to healthy living and career success.

A competition to select the best entry outlining why women matter in society has also been launched.

MBC4 plans to make the concept a permanent fixture through an online I Matter club and ongoing events throughout the Arab world.

"At MBC, we believe that a woman's individuality matters, and her knowledge matters," said Mazen Hayek, MBC Group director of marketing, PR and commercial.

"This event aims to encourage young Arab women to be the best they can be and to provoke thought and discussion among our audience."

To create I Matter, MBC4 collaborated with Effat College, a leading Jeddah university known for supporting projects that benefit society.

Tim Riordan, director of TV at MBC, added: "MBC4 provides audiences with a mix of programmes that tackle issues that are of interest all over the world. We strive to offer programming that presents these issues in an entertaining yet informative way.

"In this same manner, I Matter will provide a fun environment for Saudi women to look at real issues that affect their day to day life."

Regular newsletters will feature articles about career paths, interviews with successful businesswomen, tips on healthy eating and exercise, fashion and style advice.

Online registration is available at www.mbc.net.
