Networking giant Cisco has acquired video surveillance software provider BroadWare Technologies in a bid to expand its video surveillance offering.

US firm BroadWare supplies IP-based video surveillance software that enables web-based monitoring, management, recording and storage of audio and video.

Cisco, which is in the process of moving away from its traditional routers and switches offering, said the acquisition, its seventh this year, was designed to complement its existing video surveillance product business.

The networking firm acquired SyPixx Networks, another video surveillance software supplier, in March last year.

“Cisco views the video surveillance infrastructure market as an immediate high growth opportunity that requires the ability to support both IP and analog device installations,” said Marthin De Beer, senior vice president of Cisco’s Emerging Market Technologies Group (EMTG). “Through the acquisition of BroadWare, Cisco will be able to address both existing and greenfield video surveillance opportunities.”

BroadWare’s team of 38 employees will be integrated into Cisco’s EMTG group upon closure of the deal, Cisco said.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
