Metro deal approved

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Friday, 01 December 2006

Metro Group’s takeover of 85 Wal-Mart stores in its home market, Germany, has been approved by the Federal Competition Commission.

Metro is planning to convert the stores into its Real hypermarket fascia by mid-2007.

The first converted store is scheduled to open by December 2006. Metro is also planning to make the main decisions in regards to the integration of the two headquarters before the end of the year. Wal-Mart announced its market exit in July 2006, after admitting that Germany would be a difficult market in which to achieve its aims.
