Bahrain is to purchase nine Black Hawk helicopters from the US Army in a deal valued at around $200 million, it was revealed on Tuesday.
US helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky announced at the Paris Air Show that Bahrain has signed a letter of offer and acceptance (LOA) for its UH-60Ms, the latest in its line of Black Hawks.
The new aircraft will provide the Royal Bahraini Air Force with multi-mission capability including combat search and rescue, Sikorsky said.
The helicopters also feature upgraded technology that improves lift capability, engine power, protection and survivability, it added.
"We are honoured that the Kingdom of Bahrain has placed confidence in Sikorsky and the UH-60M. We look forward to a continued long and close relationship," said Joseph Gigantelli, Sikorsky regional cxecutive for the Middle East.
