Fisia’s orders reach US $1.5 billion

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Sunday, 01 July 2007

Italian desalination firm Fisia Italimpianti has been awarded a contract for the multi-stage flashing (MSF) seawater desalination plant M3 in Jebel Ali by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), taking its orders to US $1.5 billion since the beginning of the year.

The M3 contract, worth US $247 million, follows two orders from the same client for the M1 and M2 stations. The three facilities will have a combined capacity of 640 million litres per day.

Fisia was also recently awarded a contract to build a US $457 million desalination plant at Ras Abu Fontas A1 in Qatar, which is due to be completed in 2009.

The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has signed a deal with the Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC) to buy 45 million gallons of desalinated water a day from the plant for a period of 25 years.

Fisia, a subsidiary of the Impregilo group, is experiencing record growth in 2007. The US $1.5 billion figure for this year compares to an annual average of US $250 million from 2002 to 2006.
