Revolutionary hotel room designs by well-known designers will be on show throughout the region this year. The Hotel Room of the Future models, commissioned and executed by Depa, include designs from Karim Rashid; Khuan Chew; Marco Piva; LW Design Group and Ministry of Design, Singapore.
Giane Atallah, interior designer, Depa Room explained the concept: "All of the designers were given a free reign for the design of their version of the hotel room of the future, the results of which are all very different."
A total of 25 rooms, 11 of which are already implemented projects and a remaining 14 which form the ‘Depa Signature Collection' will be on display. A showroom in Cairo is expected to open soon while the one in Dubai will be operational by the end of the year. Five will be displayed throughout the region by next year.
Karim Rashid's concept design was showcased at the Hotel Show last month. The hotel room, in an array of pastel colours, has no corners and one centrally placed piece of furniture which combines the functions of a bed, desk, seating and table. The rounded shape of the room, which is easy to clean, allows for corner units to house the bathroom and wardrobe area as featuring the latest technology including a glass window which can be set to clear or opaque, while serving as a television screen at night.
