Kids chain grows up fast in Middle East

by Roger Field on Monday, 02 July 2007

Mamas & Papas, a UK-based retail chain selling baby and nursery products, is set to open a further nine stores in the Middle East within the next two years, after already opening four stores in the UAE and Kuwait this year.

Mamas & Papas, which is working with franchise partner Al Tayer Group in the Middle East, is planning to open the new stores in Bahrain, Qatar and Oman, along with three more flagship stores planned for Dubai.

The British chain opened its first store in the region in Abu Dhabi's Marina Mall earlier this year, followed by three more stores in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Kuwait in the past month.

Mamas & Papa's franchise team is also negotiating with potential franchisees in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Japan.

"The worldwide awareness of the Mamas & Papas brand has been amazing and has steadily increased since the opening of our flagship store on Regent Street in London," said Richard Faulkner, deputy chief executive, Mamas & Papas.

Mamas & Papas has 32 stores throughout the UK and Ireland.
