Microsoft in talks to establish innovation centre in Dubai

Microsoft Gulf is in talks with Dubai Government to set up a Microsoft Innovation Centre in Dubai, according to a local newspaper report.

The centre would be based around the theme of a digital lifestyle, and sponsor applications for digital homes, digital communities and the digital city, the Gulf News said, citing Vimal Sethi, developer and platform group director at Microsoft Gulf as its source.

"We are [in] the final stages of conversations and many parties are involved," Sethi said, according to the report.

The centre would be a partnership between academia, the public sector and the private sector, the report said.

Microsoft Innovation Centres are aimed at fostering innovation and growth in local software economies.

The software giant established one such centre in Kuwait in April this year, inaugurated by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer during his visit to the country, and has another in Oman.

It has approximately 110 innovation centres worldwide.
