Royal Jordanian Airlines has introduced non-stop flights to Budapest, increasing its service to 54 destinations.

The twice-weekly service to Hungary's capital will start on July 28. RJ will fly from Amman to Budapest on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The plane will leave Amman at 11:30am local time and arrive in Budapest at 14:10 local time. The flight from Budapest departs at 14:55 local time and arrives in Amman at 19:10 local time.

Hussein Dabbas, vice president/marketing, sales and services, believes demand for the service has grown following King Abdullah II's visit to Hungary last June.

"His Majesty's visit is sure to have a large positive impact on the development of commerce, economy and tourism between the two countries," Dabbas added.

Dabbas also revealed that Royal Jordanian and Malev Hungarian Airline's membership in the oneworld airline alliance was a factor behind the launch.

The carriers will soon sign a code-share agreement, enabling them to use each other's code numbers on tickets for destinations across the Middle East, and Central and Northern Europe.

Royal Jordanian carried out feasibility studies before launching the route. "Hungary's membership in the European Union gives the country economic, cultural, geographic and tourism value, attracting Jordanian tourism to the European continent, Dabbas said.

"The airline will become a distribution and polarisation carrier for passengers in the region."

Budapest is Royal Jordanian's second launch in 2007, with non-stop flights to Montreal announced in May.
