Cadbury to axe jobs

Cadbury Schweppes, a confectionery and drinks giant, has announced plans close 15% of its confectionery sites and cut its workforce by 15% by 2011.

The cutbacks are part of a strategy to reduce costs and increase profit margins from 10% to about 15% by 2011.

The company plans to implement the strategy following the separation of its drink division, Americas Beverages.

Cadbury Schweppes is headquartered in London while its main manufacturing plant is in Birmingham, UK.
