Alastair Campbell, the former communications director under ex British prime minister Tony Blair, will visit the UAE later this year, Gulf News reports.
Campbell will star at the IIR Middle East’s PR Congress 2007, which runs from October 28 to November 1. He will host ‘A Day with Alastair Campbell’ at Dubai’s Jumeirah Beach Hotel.
Campbell served as Downing Street’s director of communications and strategy between 1997 and 2003, and was widely believed to hold greater influence than many cabinet ministers during this period.
Elevated to legendary status within the PR industry, he was felt by many to have damaged the prime minister with a triumph of ‘spin’ over policy.
He generated headlines when he was linked to a dossier that allegedly exaggerated the threat posed to the UK by former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussain, prior to the US-led invasion of Iraq.
Campbell recently published his first volume of diaries ‘The Blair Years,’ which covers the run-up to the 1997 UK general election through to the aftermath of the Iraq war.
